Well, obviously I didn’t write every day like I had planned too. But I need to do that for the exercise.
At this moment it is almost 9:00 PM on Tuesday. I can’t log on to the internet since my mom has disconnected the main computer in our living room because of the thunderstorm going on right now. (A couple of years ago our computer was struck by lightning.) I love thunderstorm during the night. To her the rain on the roof, the rumble of the thunder: It is relaxing to me when I am indoors, opposed to being outside in it. This is the second night in a row that it has stormed. It has been very dry the past couple of weeks so we have needed it.
Yesterday I finished the book “City of Thieves” by David Benioff. I enjoyed it. I had way too much cussing in for my liking, but it was a fascinating and well written story. The introduction gives the impression that this is the true story of the author’s grandfather in Russia during World War II. I don’t know whether it is or isn’t, it’s listed as a novel.
My dad had a hip replacement on Wednesday, so my mom and I were planning to go to the library on Tuesday but we were unable to make it before it closed so we looked at a book store and I saw the book. I liked the title and picked it up and read the outline on the back and it intrigued me. It is a book about a two young Russian men, one arrested for looting and the other for deserting. They are giving the chance to save their lives by completing a seeming impossible task: find a dozen eggs in the horribly deprived, war torn city of Leningrad, so a colonel’s daughter can have a cake at her wedding.
This book is thought provoking, tragic, thrilling and funny. I would be on the edge of my seat one minute then laughing out loud the next.
I am looking for another good book to start. I hope I will enjoy it as much as I did “City of Thieves”.
